A Closer Look: Bodega x New Balance 577 HYPRCAT

The Bodega and New Balance collaboration is upon us. The collaboration between Boston’s own and the runner producing powerhouse has turned many heads, involved the likes of Action Bronson, and has had many asking questions – delving into the story behind the “8-bit” branded beauties.

Modeled after one of the popular 3D first person shooter games of the ’90s, Star Fox, the Bodega x New Balance  577 HYPRCAT takes its inspiration from the game’s outer space setting and vintage graphics. In the midst of the Sega vs. Nintendo wars, game developers squeezed in every graphical improvement they could. Inspired by Nintendo’s push to include 3D effects in their games, our designers included similar polygon graphics into this project, specifically on the tongue and sole.

Visually tantalizing graphics take hold in key places throughout this design. We are even privy to a Star Fox homage on the insoles with what appears to be the fighter jet-like aircraft piloted in the N64 classic.

Varying textile choices overlay the uppers in a greying fashion with a multitude of accents surrounding the “N” New Balance branding, inner lining, some midfoot panel “flecking”, heel cap and finishing on the outsole with an heavily tinted blue hue.

If you’re in “Beantown” and were lucky enough to grab a ticket that secures your pair (Bodega will be handing them out until 6pm Friday night or until they’ve all been given out) you can drop by and scoop up your guaranteed pair on the morning of release day for $160. For those of us outside of the Bodega homestead, online looks to be our only chance although the East Coast boutique has yet to shed light on the process, stay close to the Twitter handle for updates in regards to that process. Until then, enjoy detailed imagery shot by Bodega.
