This Week (Month) in Skateboarding

After a brief hiatus it is my pleasure to present the return of This Week in Skateboarding. A lot has happened in the last few weeks, but I will do my best to cover all of the important stuff which has taken place in the first few weeks of August.

  • This past week Huf Quality Footwear officially announced the addition of Independent and Dickies pro, Kevin Terpening. The announcement was paired with an impressive welcome video which can be seen below. My jaw dropped at the :23 mark.
  • Vans and legendary skateboard company Alien Workshop announced a collaboration which includes a collection of clothing and special colorways of the Chukka Low, Chukka Pro, and Stage 4. The entire collection can be found here.

  • A few months ago we announced the partnership between Black Box Distribution and New Balance footwear, resulting in the creation of New Balance Numeric, New Balance’s skateboarding division. Last week New Balance Numeric announced the addition of Tyler Surrey and Jordan Taylor to the team, as well as their first team video A Place in the Sun. Posted below, the video is almost eight minutes of awesome skating from New Balance Numeric pros Levi Brown, Arto Saari, PJ Ladd, Tom Karangelov, as well as newcomers Surrey and Taylor. The intro is reason enough to watch, even if the most skateboarding you have ever watched was the X Games.
  • Birdhouse pro Aaron “Jaws” Homoki had a new commercial for Dekline footwear and it is insane.
  • In non-shoe related news, living legend Bob Burnquist recently released a video part called Dreamland. Due to writer guidelines I am not allowed to tell you the exact words I said after watching this part, so I’ll leave it at “Wow”.

Happy Skateboarding!
