Kobe 8 “Year of the Snake” Collection

A few weeks ago, a red camouflage upper Kobe 8 was leaked on the internet. Many people speculated that it was going to be the shoe Kobe Bryant will lace up in come All-Star weekend in Houston. Alas, Nike kept people guessing incorrectly as it unveiled the red camouflage Kobe 8 was in fact one of three variations of the Kobe 8 silhouette as part of the “Year of the Snake” collection.

The collection encompasses footwear for both on court performance as well as off court casual wear. The first pair is an all black pair is wrapped in a snake print upper and black leather. The second pair is handsomely done up in a red suede for casual wear. The final pair is engineered with Lunarlon and Engineered Mesh composition.

The Snake is the intuitive, introspective, refined and collected of the Animal Signs in Chinese culture, and you can say those qualities also resonate with the signature athlete who endorses this particular shoe. There’s a reason why Kobe Bryant commands the “Black Mamba” moniker with his stellar play on court throughout his storied career. I can see the Kobe 8 line being the most extensive in the history of the Kobe signature as it aligns with the Year of the Snake quite perfectly. Personally, I’m very excited for the third pair. The red speckle midsole and camouflage upper is probably the nicest the Kobe 8 has been presented in so far in my opinion. No release information was available upon the reveal but keep it right here for launch information. Which one(s) do you plan on picking up?
